Length of programs: RN to BSN can take 1 to 2 years. An MSN takes 18 months to 2 years

Salary: BSN ranges from 35,000 to $60,000; MSN ranges from $63,000 to $105,000.

Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) provide primary health care to women, including gynecological exams, family planning, prenatal care, assistance in labor and delivery, and neonatal care. They are skilled in the art and science of birthing, and CNMs work in hospitals, clinics, health departments, homes and private practices.

Educational Requirements

Master’s of Skilled Nursing (MSN); certified midwives must also pass a certification exam administered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).

The requirements to enter a Midwife program vary by school, but for most programs the following is needed::

  1. Bachelor's degree, (not always required that it be in nursing)
  2. A current license to practice as a registered nurse in one of the 50 states
  3. One to two years nursing experience
  4. A minimum GPA of 3.0.
